Configuring your iPad

Sometimes, we may wipe an iPad and reset it to its default settings. In these cases, the iPad will need to be configured before it is used.

Do not use proximity setup when configuring your iPad - they are not your iPads.

Prerequisites

  • Your iPad is powered on and charged.
  • You are at a school or at a HIDOE facility with network access.

Configuring your iPad (Cellular/Wi-Fi)

  1. When choosing a language, please select your preferred language.
  2. Select "United States" as your country or region.
  3. On the Quick Start screen, please select "Set Up Manually".
    • This is Proximity Setup, and should not be used under any circumstances. Proximity Setup uses your personal iCloud account attached to whatever device is nearby to complete the setup process, which isĀ strictly forbidden. All ALPSS iPads are controlled by a system called an MDM, which administers and manages all of our iPads. Adding your iCloud account to the iPad subverts this system, which is a big no-no.
  4. On the Choose a Wi-Fi Network screen, log in to your school or home's Wi-Fi. If your iPad is already connected to cellular (i.e. after a wipe), simply choose "Use Cellular Connection".
  5. Your iPad will begin the activation process. Please allow up to 5 minutes for this to complete.
  6. On the Remote Management screen, tap "Next" in the top-right-hand corner of the screen.
  7. Tap the "Enroll this device" button on the next screen.
  8. Your iPad will begin installing apps and profiles. Depending on your internet speed, please allow up to 5 hours for this to complete.

Configuring your iPad (MacBook Pro)

If you are configuring an iPad after it has been wiped and do not know your school's Wi-Fi network/password, you can easily configure your iPads with a Macbook Pro.

Under absolutely no circumstances are you permitted to use your Macbook Pro to Supervise or otherwise reappropriated ALPSS-owned devices. You are allowed to only share your Macbook's internet connection. Failure to comply may result in criminal investigation.

  1. In your Macbook Pro/Air, open System Preferences.
  2. Click Sharing.
  3. In the list on the left, check Internet Sharing.
  4. With the provided USB-C to Thunderbolt cable (the one you use to charge your iPad with), plug in your iPad to the Macbook.
  5. On your iPad, configure your iPad's language and region.
  6. Your iPad will begin activating itself. Follow the prompts to complete enrollment.
  7. Your iPad will begin connecting to your school's network. Leave your iPad plugged in until a Wi-Fi icon appears in the upper-right-hand corner of the screen.

Important information

  • Before distributing the iPad, please ensure that the app Cisco Security Connector is installed. This app provides content filtering and monitoring in compliance with HIDOE policies. You are absolutely prohibited under any circumstances from distributing an iPad without this app installed. Please take the necessary precautions as you will be held liable for any violations or inappropriate use of the iPad.
  • If you are configuring a brand-new iPad, your device might not have cellular. Please refer to this article to see how you can set it up.
