Connecting your iPad to Wi-Fi
In rare circumstances, iPads can sometimes disconnect from Wi-Fi on their own or fall out of sync with our management system, thus causing the device to lose connection to the internet. Luckily, the fix for this is easy and doesn't require much effort.
Before we begin
It's important to note that if a whole deployment of iPads loses their connection to school Wi-Fi, having students help is a great way to both speed things along, and help them get familiar with using devices like these. As such, attempting to fix this during the day when students are using iPads can make this process move much faster.
Also note that we are unable to share or publish network information, as this information can easily compromise the integrity of your school's network. As such, you'll need to inquire with your school's IT team to get your local network password. We are unable to provide information about the Wi-Fi network that comes preloaded with your iPad.
Method 1: the MacBook Method
If you have a MacBook available on hand, you can easily have your iPads reconnected to school Wi-Fi.
- In System Settings, navigate to General > Sharing.
- At the bottom of the list, click the Info icon next to the switch.
- In the "Share your connection from:" dropdown, select Wi-Fi.
- In "To computers using:", select all options.
- Now, plug your MacBook into your iPad cart.
This will share your internet connection with the iPads plugged into the cart, thus allowing your iPads to resync/reconnect with your school's Wi-Fi.
Method 2: the Hotspot Method
Connecting your iPads to a hotspot - even just for a few minutes - can help fix them and get them back online.
- Turn on your hotspot.
- Connect your iPads to this hotspot and leave them connected for a few minutes.
- Disconnect the iPads.
This should allow the iPads to follow up with our management system and receive the necessary configurations to reconnect to your school's Wi-Fi. This process shouldn't take longer than 5 minutes, but we encourage you to try again if necessary.
Caution
Manually entering your school's local network's password is highly discouraged because with iPadOS 16 and later, manually entered passwords can be viewed and copied with ease. However, since the network that we distribute to our iPads is done so with an MDM, its password is not visible and cannot be accessed in the settings.
